Nobody’s perfect is the immortal phrase which ends the classic film, Some Like it Hot. It also provides the title of this modern comedy of deception, subterfuge and love by Simon Williams, the star of TV’s Upstairs Downstairs and Agony.

Leonard knows he has a gift to write romantic fiction and enters a competition being held by an all female publishing house. He adopts a pseudonym - Myrtle Banbury – and he wins! The snag is that Harriet Copeland, head of the firm, wants to meet Myrtle to award the prize of a contract for £15,000.

Just as Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis became Daphne and Josephine, so Leonard, single parent, statistician and aspiring author, dons female attire and presents himself as his own aunt

“This is absolutely not another drag act as in Charley’s Aunt,” said director, Malcolm Brown. “Unlike Fancourt Babberley, Leonard, is completely convincing as an attractive woman.”

Add the complications that Leonard has not told his father or his teenage daughter or that he falls for Harriet hook line and sinker, and mayhem follows.

Malcolm added: “The delightful banter between the family members and the sparky exchanges between Harriet and Leonard make this light hearted, play an unmissable theatrical treat.”
