December 1st -6th 2008 7.45pm Matinee Saturday 6th 2.30pm Start December with a classic of black comedy at the Chesil Theatre, Winchester. Loot, by Joe Orton, promises a laughter-packed evening that rarely errs on the side of either taste or decency as sex, religion and unorthodox policing methods combine in a furious, funny and irreverent farce. Hal and Dennis have robbed the bank next door to the undertakers - but where to hide the money? They find the perfect place – the coffin occupied by Hal McLeavy’s recently-deceased mother. She was cared for in her final days by Fay, a sexy young nurse with a mysterious past, who is now determined to seduce Mr McLeavy, the pious widower. When the eccentric Inspector Truscott of the Yard arrives mayhem ensues. Director, Rachel O’Neill, said: “Orton’s witty dialogue is beautifully stylised and has been compared to that of Oscar Wilde. In his short writing career Orton wrote several excellent plays but this is his masterpiece.” Tickets, subject to availability, £7 Monday £10 Tuesday to Saturday from Theatre Royal Winchester Box, Office 01962 840440 End Photo Call: Thursday November 13th Chesil Theatre 7.30pm Contact: Rachel O’Neill 017821 879094, Chesil Theatre 01962 867086 Lisbeth Rake |
