My Boy Jack tells the story of Rudyard Kipling’s conflict between his patriotism, his love of children – especially his determination to get his myopic son Jack into the forthcoming war of 1914 and the resultant family conflict it causes. When Jack finally sees action at just 17, he is posted missing and the family spend years trying to find out if and how he died. This is a challenging play with some marvellously meaty parts. It does contain some nudity (Jack) and in the trench scene some strong language.
