Playhouse
Creatures, directed by Sue Hake, which deals with the end of
cross-dressing, telling, as it does, the stories of those women who took to
the stage for the first time when the playhouses opened again at the
Restoration.
But this is no genteel Restoration comedy the language is tough, uncompromising and sometimes vulgar, like the women themselves who had to fight for survival in a mans world. Some lost the battle, some like Nell Gwynne achieved celebrity and wealth. [details] |
