The workshops currently each meet on one evening per week to learn about the elements of theatre craft, develop self-confidence and have fun. They are led by volunteer Chesil Theatre members who have a wide range of expertise in acting, directing and backstage work.
We aim to provide a range of experiences in the dramatic arts by utilising the theatre's stage, auditorium and associated facilities.
We do not stage full public youth performances. Our workshops teach and develop specific drama skills using improvisation techniques and extracts from set texts. Workshop members can perform in occasional presentations as part of the theatre's social calendar, or as special events on behalf of other local organisations and bodies.
In recent years, the workshops have developed special one off presentations for members, parents and friends such as
- Show off at the Chez Ches Café (Dramatising song lyrics)
- Pieces of Cake (A collection of scenes from Alfred Hitchcock films)
- Excerpts from Ghetto by Joshua Sobel
- Ectoplasmic Manifestations (Cinema style trailers of the Chesil's future plays).
- The Letter (Reactions to receiving letters in scenes devised by the members)
- It's Time (Contributions to Winchest
er
City Council's millennium celebrations including a performance with David Bellamy)
- Bridging the Gap. A project looking at prejudice with students from
King Alfred's College.
Day and week long drama activities are being planned to take place during
the school holidays. Details of any forthcoming events are set out below.
From time to time we also support workshop members to attend and participate in the activities of
affiliated national drama associations. [Top]
