A comedy of errors relevant for our time. This rumbustious romp of a political satire centres around the corrupt officials of a Russian town, thrown into panic at the news that am incognito government official is arriving to carry out an inspection.

Nikolai Gogol's 19th century play bursts with comic tension and is liberally injected with contemporary references in this energetic translation and adaptation by Alastair Beaton.

Reading and Audition Info.

Our readings are social occasions where Chesil members and members of the public can come and either join in with a read-through of the play, or simply listen in! They give a sense of the play, and the director's vision, but they are not auditions and are open to all. The reading for The Government Inspector will be at 7:45pm at the theatre on 22nd April 2022.

The cast comprises of 29 roles (14 of which are major roles), all open to doubling-up and gender flexibility. Auditions will be held at 7:45pm at 24th and 25th April at the theatre. You do not need to attend both dates and do not need to book to audition, just turn up!
